In February 1815, a king, Louis the XVIII, once again sits on the Throne of France. He succeeds Emperor Napoleon I, defeated ten months earlier by a coalition of the great European powers united against him.

Following his abdication, the deposed sovereign, now banished from both French soil and Europe’s continental Territory, is relegated to the throne of Elba, a minuscule Island in the Mediterranean Sea erected for him as a Principality by the victorious powers.

It is there that begins, despite himself, the saga of Edmond Dantes, soon to be reborn as Count of Monte Cristo.

Summary


This classic story occurs in France, Italy, and the Mediterranean Basin. Commencing in 1815 – just before “The hundred days” of Napoleon’s second reign and his defeat in Waterloo – it extends until 1842 during the reign of King Louis – Philippe. This epic adventure revolves around hope, justice, vengeance, passion, mercy, forgiveness, and redemption.

It focuses on one man wrongfully accused and imprisoned who escapes from jail, acquires an immense fortune, and sets forth on an act of ruthless revenge on those responsible for his unjust incarceration. Nevertheless, his plans have devastating consequences for the innocent and the guilty.

The Story Plot

While the regal law prohibits any relations with the deposed Emperor and bans all French vessels from anchoring in the waters of the island of Elba, a young sailor named Edmond Dantes, Second mate of the merchant ship the "Pharaoh," anchors in the waters of the forbidden island after the impromptu death of the ship's captain.

Learning that Edmond bears with him a letter from the Emperor to Marseille, three jealous friends, capitalizing on his unsuspecting, accuse him of conspiring to restore the deposed sovereign in an anonymous letter sent to the regal authorities. Arrested, Edmond Dantes is imprisoned in the fortress "Chateau d'If" on the islet of the same name off the shores of Marseille.

After fourteen hopeless years, Edmond escapes and retrieves a hidden treasure buried on the isle of Monte-Cristo, the location of which was revealed to him by Abbot Faria, a fellow prisoner. Now a rich and powerful man hiding under the guise of Count of Monte Cristo, he swears an oath of vengeance against those who betrayed him. He will particularly target one devilish man named Fernand Mondego, now Earl of Morcef, who deceived and married Mercedes, Edmond’s beloved fiancée, after he convinced her of his death.

French-born and well-known French-American songwriter and music producer Yves Dessca is the creator of the musical The Count of Monte Cristo presented herein, designed for both theater and concert. His achievements extend worldwide, particularly in France, the United States, and the United Kingdom. He began his career in 1967 at 18, then a student at the University of Paris. Many of the most famous French artists as Michel Sardou with "La maladie d'amour", Claude Francois, Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, Alain Delon as well as British and North American artists such as Elvis Presley (My Boy), Gloria Gaynor (I Will Survive), Paul Anka (Do I Love You), Celine Dion, Viola Wills, Phyllis Nelson (Move Closer) to name a few, have recorded his songs and/or where produced by him.

At the beginning of his career, then barely twenty, his song "Quand nous n'aurons que la tendresse", performed by Nicole Croisille, won ex aequo the Great Prize of La Rose d'Or d'Antibes 1969. He would then win the Eurovision Grand Prize in 1971 for Monaco and 1972 for Luxembourg, remaining the only songwriter to date to have won it twice in a row.

From the end of 1984 and until the early 90's, Yves Dessca was in New York the CEO of Carrère USA, the American branch of the legendary French record company, then a Sony-Epic associated Label, and the most prominent French independent Recording Music company at the time.

In addition, as a Music Top Executive, Yves contributed to various productions, including the TV broadcast "Three Tenors' Concert" for RAI Uno, featuring Pavarotti, Carreras & Domingo, first performed in the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, Italy in the Spring of 1990.

Today, more than 1,000 Yves Dessca's compositions – either written, produced, or both – have been recorded and released, selling over 60 millions copies worldwide.

His work has won him many prestigious awards, such as the BMI Awards, ASCAP Awards, Music Awards, PRS Awards, and SACEM Awards. These awards have resulted in 37 gold singles (formerly 1 million copies each) and 6 platinum albums (formerly 2 million copies each), crowning his achievements throughout his career.

In addition, he is also a producer and screenwriter for Hollywood. As a composer, he participated in particular in the musical score of "The Bourne Identity" with Mah Damon and more than 45 other feature films, both French and American, notably in his long partnership with Cineville USA/Cineville.com, Wikipédia, IMDb, Discogs etc.
